Let's set the mood with a video.
This is the 2nd time I've seen this band perform at SUU... this month.
Yeah, they've been getting a lot of face time down here.
I don't mind.
The first time I saw them I didn't think they were overly awesome.
But last night, I got obsessed.
Their music was exactly the same, but I didn't have an awkward boy next to me touching my leg this time.
I had all my friends showing off their awesome dance moves.
Alright now it's time to share the highlight of the show.
A moment that was both awkward & awesome.
J.Wride is playing a super intimate song.
Near the end of the song they have a lyric that begins "take my hand"
So Staci & I look at each other and take hands, of course.
Then the lyric ends with "and we'll fly away"
So we flew away together.
Awesome right?
Right.
But then it got awkward.
Main singer boy happened to notice us do this...
and he called us out.
I mean he just told us how beautiful it was, no big deal.
That was the moment I knew this was a band I could support.
So after the show I find myself standing right next to him in the crowd.
I had to seize the opportunity to tell him how much I appreciated the lyric and the shout out.
Then what awkward comment did I follow it up with?
"Can me and my crew get a photo with the band?"
"Can me and my crew get a photo with the band?"
Not only did we get a photo, but we got a life story from the bassist about how he made his bass guitar himself and bought the fancy bird-eye maple wood from a millionaire who was flooring his ballroom with it.
Pretty awesome.
Okay and I know this is a long post, but I have one last awesome moment to share.
Remember blistery hand?
Well I saw him at the concert.
For the first time since the initial meeting.
So I decided to be brave in an awkward situation and approach him.
He greeted me with a high 5, told me the heat blisters were all a lie, and planted the seed for a beautiful friendship.
I love this so much. Thanks for recording this memory.
