Tuesday Creepin'

So I have a secret I've been keeping from the virtual world... and a lot of people in the regular world too.

Last semester Emily & I started this tradition called Tuesday Creepin'. Let me give you a quick summary. One night we showed up at a boy named Andy's house for a visit. He said "What is this Tuesday Creepin'?" Then a beautiful thing was born. It became a weekly tradition of showing up with no warning to the porch of people we wanted to get to know better. We did it weekly for I'd say 6 to 8 weeks, then summer rolled around and it fizzled. There is way more too it, but those are probably other posts for other days. Or maybe things I should keep to myself.

Anyways. Last night we found ourselves with a moment of opportunity to rekindle the Tuesday Creep. This time we had a whole car load of people, including:

Laura

and me.
(So what if all my friends have blogs... we have twitter too.)

What was our destination? The creep of all creeps, a cabin on Cedar Mountain. The Greenwell cabin to be exact.  I'd been there about a week before... in the daylight, not driving the car, and barely paying attention. We proceeded anyway, in the dark of night, to search the mountain for this perfect creepin' opportunity. We got to the general vicinity, but all we could find were locked gates labeled "the Smith's" with signs everywhere that said:

Cameron made sure to inform us about the Utah law that allows citizens to shoot any person trespassing on their property. Things were looking bleak.

Until we came to what? An open gate. And as we shined the headlamp out the window into the forest there was the landmark we had been searching for. Finally we found the turnoff!! Hallelujah, praise the heavens! You may not understand how tender this moment was. We had been in the car venturing for a solid 45 minutes at this point. Everyone was losing faith. Things were becoming incredibly frightening. It was pitch black by now with no sign of life anywhere around us. But huzzah, the turnoff!

Unfortunately we ran into a problem. As rockin' as the Buick is...
We couldn't quite handle the bumpy terrain this dirt road had to offer. We got out to walk. Next problem, Samuel is on crutches because of this incident. There was no turning back now though. We'd come this far. The girls ventured on while the men stayed in the car.

Thank goodness for my $5 headlamp to light the way (best purchase of the summer). Upon approaching the cabin I had to confirm we were at the right place, just a quick look over shining my light around to make sure I recognized things. While I was doing this I must have shined the light into the window because all of the sudden voices erupted "Someone's outside, did you see those lights?" "There are people outside the cabin!" "DAD! SOMEONE IS OUT THERE!!" So obviously their fear set us off in a panic... whaaat do we do?! Then I hear a "Hurry Laurel go to the door." Oh and I may have forgot to mention I'm the only one of us who has ever met these boys we are creeping.

So I approach the door and knock lightly, at this point it's about 10:30 and people could be sleeping. Then the biggest relief of my life, Jordan comes to the door. Peeks out, can't see anything but darkness, and bravely opens the door anyways. I  yell, "SURPRISE!!" He let out a huge sigh of comfort and welcomed us in. I was half offended half flattered when he made the comment, "This would be too much coming from anyone else, but from Laure it's basically expected."

Turns out someone had just found a body bag hanging from a tree at a mysterious cabin up the road so him and his brother were already freaked out as it was. Our creepin' gave them the biggest scare of their life, pale faces, trembling, weak in the knees. Oh it was a glorious experience.

And I learned a valuable lesson. Of all the Tuesday creeps we've carried out not once has someone turned us away. That right there is a testimony to the goodness of all mankind, or at least the people I associate myself with.

  1. I truly just laughed out loud at this. I miss you guys so much. Also Cam's comment about getting shot is one of my favorite things ever. This is so great.
