I'm a girl.

So here is the thing.
This post is going to be about girly stuff.
Because I'm a girl and I like that stuff.
The other day, my roommate Loryn & I had a late night and watched He's Just Not That Into You.
I hated it the first time I saw it in theaters.
This time it was better because I had already been offended by the inappropriate parts so I could pay attention to the rest of the movie.
Unfortunately they put the clip I hate inside the trailer, but here it is anyways.

Also, while I was browsing I came across this compilations of scenes from One Tree Hill dubbed by the trailer.

I've had two different people text me about One Tree Hill this week and how they are watching season one and how good it is and how many great scenes there are and how they miss watching it with me.
I think it's a sign I need to watch it more.
I used to spend hours watching that show.
Every new friend I made, I watched that show with.
And I liked my life better back then.

Anyways back to He's Just Not That Into You,
It's a pretty realistic movie and I like that.
Good life lessons, you know?
Girls are so stupid for justifying boys not being into them only to create an emotional roller coaster for themselves.
Actually more like they are tied to the back of the roller coaster car, being dragged by their ankles, with their face smacking the track on every twist and turn.
Blood and guts everywhere.
Gross, who wants that?

More girls just need to adopt the technique my roommate Staci Ashby suggested to me:
"Let the river flow its course."
Just like any good kayaker would do.
Speaking of good kayakers, read this blog by Eric Jones if you like funny stuff and important stuff combined into one.

Now one more bit of girly commentary.
I'm in support of gender roles.
But yesterday I was told that women are meant to stay home with their families and not pursue their career goals.
In an incredibly demeaning way.
Forget that. I'm going to graduate school someday and I'm going to learn so many things that will help me have a family.
Oh I hate people trying to stifle my potential.

I hope this post hasn't been too girly for you.
This kind of stuff just needs an outlet.
Especially when you live in a house full of hormones.

  1. Loved your closing line. Oh estrogen...gotta love it. Almost as much as I loved this post, and about OTH yeah, I'd love to watch that assuming we have free time the same day.

  2. In response to the rampant sexism in our community (and I think you know what community I mean), I have developed a few key questions for basically any guy I meet for the first time:

"How do you feel about the unequal ratio of men to women in graduate school these days?"

"Would you be comfortable if your wife made more money than you?"

    and my personal favourite:

"Are you willing to sacrifice a career to raise a family?"

Love your blog, Laurel. Keep at it!

  4. I loved everything about this, maybe because I went from being surrounded with tones of estrogen to none but I had the very same thoughts after I watched He's Just Not That Into You.
