HELLO!!
Quick to answer your questions: The food adjustment is fine. All
the food they serve at the CTM is really well prepared so that's good.
Some days it tastes better than others. I eat a lot of meat. I mean A
LOT. Like they give me two helpings every meal. I don't always eat all
of it, but I eat a lot of it. When it's good I've got to stock up. My
new goal is to eat smaller portions though. They always have rolls which
I love. I know which kinds are the best so it's always a good day when
they have those. They have hot cereal and ham & cheese paninis for
breakfast every single morning. Once a week they also have cold cereal.
And once in the whole time I've been here they had pancakes. I didn't
realize what a great day that was because it was my second day here. I'm
looking forward to it happening again though.
Big news this week. We have a meeting tonight with one of the guys
who works at the CTM and he told us our trio is going to be split up tomorrow
because the girl who has been in Provo waiting for her visa got it. She
is going to be my new companion. I'm trying to have a good attitude,
but mostly I'm way nervous. I love my companions and it's going to be
rough to have to change. I'm starting to realize that the entire mission
is full of learning to love people and then saying goodbye to them.
Some of our favorite sisters left the CTM this week and another group of
them are leaving next week. Pretty soon there will only be about 15
sisters here, unless we get a big group this week.
We also got a new roommate last Thursday.
She is a Brazilian sister from Sao Paulo. Sister Amarim. She's
wonderful. Our communication is a bit rough, but she's patient. It's
sort of fun trying to communicate without knowing the right words. I'm
sure she gets a kick out of listening to us attempt portuguese. It's
exhausting trying to communicate with the Brazilian missionaries. I love
it, but my brain feels like it's going to explode a lot of the time.
There is a Brazilian district whose classroom is right across the hall
from ours and we have a great time befriending them everyday. One of
them looks like Moose from the movie Step Up 3. It took me like 20
minutes to explain that to him, but it was such an exhilarating moment
when he finally realized what I was saying and he had seen the movie. He
started talking about how they wear lights on their outfits when they
dance and acting out scenes from the movie. It was the best thing ever.
We're way good friends now because of it, such an awesome elder.
Also this week we got to go on a field trip to the police station.
Our visas require us to register at the police station and it was such a
great experience. They have really fancy machines that take your
fingerprints with lasers and put them in the computer. And the TV was on
in the police station so we got to watch some of the Olympics. It was
really great -- GO BRAZIL!! Their guy won the swimming. 50 meter I
think... It was all in Portuguese so I didn't understand much, but it
was great.
There are these really delicious treats here called Totuguitas that
our teacher gave us. They're chocolate turtles filled with sprinkles
and creamy chocolate in the center. YUM.
On Sunday my trio
was recruited to sing in a small group musical number. We sand This is
the Christ in Portuguese. It was pretty fun. Every fast sunday
there is mission conference so some of the CTM presidency spoke. Elder
Adams, the CTM doctor spoke and told stories about growing up in
Southern Utah and his wife talked about her days as a student at SUU for
part of her talk. It made me way happy. I love being reminded of home!
Speaking of which, pictures are the best thing ever to get in the mail,
so feel free to send them. Plain letters are great as well.
That hinario you gave me is so useful mom. Thank you. I love having
the English hymns written in so I can choose hymns I actually like. My
district really appreciates it as well.
I love you all and hope things are going well!!
Love, Laurel
