I sure am becoming a good bus rider, LUCKILY
this week we haven't gotten a surprise phone call to go to João Pessoa,
but we will be going to Sousa for zone meeting Wednesday.
It is only like 40 minutes away though. And I am way excited because
there are 4 other sisters serving there, one who I met in the CTM and am
super excited to see again, Sister Johnson. The others I don't know as
well, but all the sisters in our mission are super cool so it will be
great. Then afterwards we have lunch with the Petries. They are the
senior couple that are serving there and word on the street is they
always cook delicious American food. WAHOO!
Me with a random tree, followed by me knocking (clapping) at a door.
Funny that Chad wants to know about a spiritual
experience, I was thinking this week about how I hardly write home about
stuff like that. I write those in my journal more and not in my
e-mails. Sorry about that. I will try to share more because I really do
feel the spirit a lot here. It is hard to think of a specific experience
though because usually it is just simple ideas in my head or feelings
during a lesson. We are always saying prayers in the street to know
where we need to go and then after we'll both have the same idea of the
road we need to walk down. Usually when we both get the same impression
we know it is the spirit. I am getting better at recognizing it. The
mission conference we had the other week Elder Christensen talked about
how you can recognize which thoughts are from the Spirit because they
will be accompanied with a feeling. Most of my spiritual experiences are
just during lessons when someone is pouring out their life story to us
with so many problems and difficulties they have been through (people
here are extremely open) and I feel super inadequate like I have no idea
how they feel and I just wait for the Spirit to put an idea in my head
about what part of the gospel I need to testify about or what scripture
will help them. It is great because the Spirit always comes through.
The other night a man told us that he wasn't ready
to live the gospel and obey the commandments, but we asked if he knew
someone who was and he said we could go visit his sister who lived
across the street. We went there and she let us in and we started
teaching about the Restoration and as we were teaching more and more
people just started showing up at her house. Her other brother and a
nephew with his wife and kid and her mom and another nephew. It was cool
because some of them were less interested than others, but in the end
there was a married couple there still that were paying super close
attention even though the majority of the others had left in the middle.
This couple was great though, when I was talking about the Book of
Mormon it was seriously like I could see into the soul of the woman, she
was glowing with the Spirit. Both of them started asking all sorts
of questions after and talking about how lots of people have fear to
read the word of God because then they will know that they are sinning,
but they both accepted our invitation to read and pray about the book.
It was a way good lesson. One of those ones that you know the Spirit was
there because everyone walks away edified. Unfortunately the couple
doesn't live in our area so we gave their address to the elders, but it
was cool to be able to teach them.
Another lady we are teaching we found because Sister
Salazar started talking to a random little boy on the street, something
we don't usually do, and asked him where he lived. He took us to his
house and we met his mom and the first thing she said was that she was
really needing more peace and happiness. So she listened to our message
and accepted to be baptized next week. We went back and she had read the
chapter we marked in the Book of Mormon like 3 times and said she loved
it, unfortunately she bailed out on church Sunday
so she can't be baptized yet. We are going to keep teaching her though
and help her overcome her addictions. People here love to smoke and
drink. It is awful.
Love you all!
