I
remember going to the welfare square bakery with mom. Last
night we met a guy who was asking us about the humanitarian service our
church does and I was super proud when I started explaining a few
things. Seriously the church does so much good in the world, I am so
proud to be a member.
So it is a ward here, not a branch, and by far the
strongest I have served in. The majority of callings have people who
fill them and yesterday
in testimony meeting there weren't even long pauses of silence that the
missionaries felt pressured to fill. I didn't even get up because there
wasn't time. There are 6 missionaries serving from this ward. Three
in the same mission in São Paulo Sul and one more getting ready to go
there. Super crazy, right? There is another who has his call to go to
Santa Maria, I will tell him to look for Danny. Our area is really big
so I am like lost a lot of the time still, but I am slowly learning how
to get to some places. I am liking the area, it is a little overwhelming
because it is huge and there are so many people it's like I don't even
know where to start, but we have some potential investigators that I am
hoping will progress. Also, the members here are awesome and help a ton.
We get quite a few references and they are willing to come teach with
us. My companion and I are adjusting to each other. I am only her second
companion so I do a lot of things different than her trainer and it is
weird for her. I feel bad because I don't always explain things very
well and I get frustrated sometimes, but I am praying for patience and
more love. I have hope and faith that things will get better. God sent
me here to this area right now for a reason so I will just go with it. I
LOVE LOVE LOVE Sister Hunt and Sister Johnson, the 2 Americans that
live with me. Super good that Sister Ribeiro wants to learn English
because we love to speak it. Seriously though, it's so nice coming home
at the end of the day and having some quality girl talk. Such a blessing
to live in a foursome. Sister Ribeiro opened up to me about her past
and she has had a really hard life, I didn't even want to tell her
anything about the paradise that I grew up in. It helped me to
understand her better, but I feel super uncomfortable sharing things
with her because it's like my hardest trial in life is nothing compared
to her. She is teaching us how to samba though which I am super stoked
about.
I got a couple e-mails from friends, but not a lot. I
am super antsy to get letters this week when we have interviews. It has
been a really long time. The only people I e-mail are the people who
e-mail me first because I don't have anybodies e-mail. I only respond to letters of people who write me first too.
Sort of like karma, people get back when they give. Hahaha.
Okay here are 2 more pictures. One of some funny graffiti I found, which
just shows how religious the Brazilian culture is. What kind of
gangster in America writes "Jesus heals" on the wall? The other is
Sister Ribeiro and me.
The following pictures are: 1)I am standing with a recent
convert, Hadja, that always goes and helps us teach. She is preparing to
go on a mission and is awesome. Her mom was confirmed this Sunday, it was sweet. 2)The sunset, and 3) Me with another cool graffiti.
All week I have been thinking about the conference
talks about building your foundation in Christ and all the people who
talked about Helaman 5:12. I love using that scripture with families and
how they need to protect their families by building a strong
foundation. Also the talk about how with Christ we can have peace even
though the world doesn't have peace. People need to know how they can
have peace. There are horrible things in this world, but it doesn't mean
you have to suffer and have a horrible life.
Until next week!
Love, Sister Laurel Ann Udy
