For Christmas my family acquired a set of dominoes.
Since we already owned one, I went ahead and took the new one as my own personal set.
Turns out I love everything about this game.
And everyone else around me hates it.
I run with a crowd who loves gaming, yet I have to BEG people to participate in dominoes.
Whatever. I can be the only one who enjoys a good game of dominoes.
Turns out it's a great game to play alone.
One more reason I don't need friends.
All I want is to try and explain the reasons for my domino passion.
First let's set the mood with this super trendy video.
Domino by Jessie J
Yeah, even she understands the goodness of those little tiles.
She named her first hit single after them.
Now to reveal my true colors, I love dominoes because they are diverse.
No two dominoes are the same.
Each has a different color/number combination.
Yet, they are part of a set.
Together all of the unique pieces come together to make up a whole.
In an incredibly organized way.
If one domino went missing, it would be noticed.
Each time I play a round of dominoes I love to see the tiles wind around and create designs.
The process is so free.
I never know where it will grow next, everything depends on the chance of what domino will be drawn next.
I hope everyone can appreciate the beauty of how different the dominoes are arranged each time.
It's one of my favorite things to see.
Now, to make you feel edified for reading my blog let me enlighten you with a few fun facts about dominoes.
- They were named dominoes because of their close resemblance to domini, the Venetian Carnival masks. Double fun fact, of course I love dominoes since they are closely related to Venice, Italy which is in the top 5 places I want to travel in the world.
- Dominoes originally only had combinations from double ones to double sixes, with each tile representing a possible combination of two die rolls.
- The Chinese evolved the tile set into what is now known as the game Mahjong. Incidentally enough, another one of my favorites. Typical Asians, taking something good and making it better.
- There seems to be an endless amount of possible games to play with a domino pack. I've already learned 6 games and I'm only at the tip of the iceberg.
If you want to get into dominoes, I'm always ready for a good game.
Laurel...if we lived closer to eachother, I would most definitely play dominoes with you. I always loved the grey 12. And either the 7 I think its real. Or the lime green one. I think ill have to look into getting a set of dominoes.
