Conference was wonderful, I watched it all in
Portuguese and unlike a year ago I understood everything. I liked the
talks about gender roles, learning about the priesthood is super
interesting. There is so much to understand. The more I learn about the
gospel, the more I realize I don't know anything. Some themes I noticed
in conference were the importance of individual study of the scriptures
to strengthen ourselves. Being a missionary I have learned to love the
scriptures so much more. Seriously, without my study every morning I
would be an awful missionary. Also, I notice that the members who are
more willing to help and serve and have powerful insights are the
members who study the scriptures. Not just read, but study to be able to
learn new things constantly. There are some super amazing members here
that are examples of how I want to be in the future.
Another theme I noticed was how much of an effect
visiting and home teaching can have. Not just to leave a message with
people, but to strengthen them spiritually and help them resolve their
doubts and questions. I hope that the members here apply this in their
visits with less actives. I liked how they explained that simple things
like a visit can bring the spirit and have eternal consequences.
Oh and I loved how many times it was said to take
our problems to the Lord. Seriously, prayer is so good. Oh and that the
Atonement is so much more than just for sins, but can help in every
difficult aspect of our life. Yeah, I loved lots of things in
conference, those are just a few that I remember right now. It was good
though to remember that God is aware of my individual circumstances and
He is hearing my prayers and that everything that happens is an
opportunity for me to learn, depending if I use my agency to do so.
This letter is more about spiritual things for once.
Good I guess.
The following pictures is of the mission when Pres. Costa came to visit (did you notice that he said the closing prayer in the Sunday
afternoon session? I felt super cool remembering that I met him) and we had a mission conference.
The above picture is the family night we had at the house of our ward
mission leader on his birthday! It's the family of Francimario and Maria
Lucia and their 3 children, some of the young men in the ward, the
grandma of one of them, and a recent convert Charles. Basically all of
my favorite people in the ward here. One because they help in the
missionary work and two because they are all super excited about life
and fun to talk to and keep me laughing. Seriously, good people.
Hey here is a video of a member I met yesterday from the other ward in the stake. He is super awesome and does capoeira
and all sorts of martial arts type stuff. We went in the parking lot
between sessions and he was flipping all over the place. His name is
George and this is the only video small enough to send in e-mail.
Love you tons!
Until next week!
Sister Udy
